If I have ICSI how do I calculate my due date?

ICSI is a technique used in infertility treatments when the man has few quality sperm, or a very low sperm count. This is a fairly new technique that has been successful for many couples. Sperm are collected and injected directly into eggs that are collected from the woman. This allows for sperm that may be weaker to fertilize the egg. This procedure is also effective for men that have a defect that prevents sperm from exiting during the ejaculation process, since sperm are removed directly from the testes.

If you have conceived following ICSI, you should use the date of egg collection to calculate your due date. Health practitioners calculate your estimated due date as 40 weeks from the beginning of your last menstrual cycle, which is 38 weeks from the date of egg retrieval. This means that when you ovulate you are already at the gestational age of two weeks. Pregnancy tests are typically taken at the gestational age of four weeks. Using this formula, you would count 40 weeks from your last menstrual period, or 38 weeks from the date of egg retrieval. Ultrasound scans can provide the most accurate due date estimates, so you can ask your health practitioner to verify your due date after your first ultrasound.
