How to Save Money When Grocery Shopping

There are any number of ways that you may be able to save money when grocery shopping. Grocery shopping, while it may be one of the most expensive items in your budget, doesn’t have to completely break the bank. By following these few tips, you may find that you are saving more and more money each week when grocery shopping.

First of all, you need to be aware of product placement. That is to say, the most expensive products will often be placed at eye level. For example, a jar of one specific brand of pickles may cost as much as a dollar more than the same size jar of another brand, yet the more expensive brand is the one that you see first and the one that you grab. Also in this same vein, you can save money when grocery shopping by avoiding those checkout aisle impulse buys. You can expect that those items are almost always going to be the most expensive brand of their type, as well.

The next thing to do to save money when grocery shopping is to watch out for package size. In some cases, larger packages will be, per pound or per ounce, less expensive than smaller packages. However, this is not always the case. This can be especially true if you are looking at a perishable item; if you only need 8 ounces, and the 12 ounce package is a better price per ounce, you still need to only buy the 8 ounce package because those extra 4 ounces aren’t going to do you any good.

Finally, you can save money when grocery shopping by planning your grocery shop ahead of time. Dont go to the grocery store hungry, because you will be more likely to buy extra items that just sound tasty. Know what is going to be on your menu for the next week, and then stick to your list. In addition, watch for especially good buys, such as a situation where you can combine a particular sale with a particular coupon, for an extra good price.
