How to Carpool

Carpooling is not only great for the environment, it’s also great for your wallet! If you are interested in saving some money and helping your co-workers save money, too, then consider starting a carpool. Lots of people want to carpool, they just don’t know how to get started. When you decide to start a carpool there are a few things you need to keep in mind. The following guide will help you start a carpool and save some money!

Fill up the Car

The first thing you need to do is post an ad that you are starting a carpool and the amount of spaces that are available. This will depend on the cars being driven. Remember, too, that you can only have as many passengers as the smallest car in the carpool. So, just because you drive an 8 passenger SUV doesn’t mean anything if a carpool member drives a 5 passenger coupe. If you have rules for car size this should be included. Once you have the amount of spaces for the car you need to fill them up. Ask around and find out who is interested in carpooling in your company and fill up the car.

Create a Schedule

The great thing about carpooling is that nobody has to drive every day. Every member of the carpool will drive at some point. There are different ways to do this and it could be on an every four day schedule or a weekly schedule. This is completely based on the members of the carpool and what works for all the members.

Make Some Basic Rules

There are some basic rules that should apply to the carpool. For example, if someone can’t drive their shift they need to give 24 hours’ notice so alternate plans may be made. Another rule should apply to the actual driving. Everyone should drive safely and follow the laws. Additionally, if a driver has errands to run these should be done before or after the carpool, not while people are in the carpool unless stopping benefits everyone. There are other rules that may be important for different carpoolers, these are just a few to keep in mind.

Carpooling is great, it’s fun, and it can result in some major savings on gas and transportation over a year’s period of time. Not only will you put fewer miles on your car and spend less gas, but you will also be able to sit back and relax on the ride to work a few days per week.
