How to Balance Family Time with Multiple Jobs
Sometimes a family needs more money to survive than one full time job can provide. This is unfortunate, but it’s just the way things go sometimes. As a result, it’s not uncommon for one parent to have two or more jobs or for both parents to work two jobs. In this scenario, it is very difficult for the kids to get the attention they need despite their parents’ best efforts to provide them with what they need materially. One thing parents should understand is that while having extra money is nice, being with your kids while they are growing up is even more important. This isn’t to say parents shouldn’t work extra jobs if they need to. It’s just to say that parents who are working multiple jobs still must make the effort to spend quality time with their kids.
It’s hard, though, because you are obviously overworked and tired. Many people arrive at their home ready to go to sleep just to wake up and do it all over again. And, while this may be the way things are, parents must make the special time for their kids. Otherwise it is only a matter of time before things begin to happen like bad behavior, skipping school, failing classes, getting in fights, and the like. Because of this parents must make time for their kids even if they work multiple jobs.
#1 Weekly Family Time
The family must create a weekly family time that does not change, ever. The time that is set as family time does not get moved or set aside for anything else. That way the kids can always look forward to every Sunday morning or Wednesday evening knowing it is a safe time where the family can bond.
#2 Focus on Family
One thing that is difficult for many people to do is focus on their family when they are at home because they are tired, want to watch TV, or just do something else. However, to keep the family unit together it is important to focus on the family 100%. Turn the TV off and play a game or go to the park together. What’s important is that the family spend time together and this must be valuable time.
These are just a couple of suggestions to help you balance work life and family life. It’s never easy and you will always have plenty of demands on you. However, you should keep in mind that your children are only kids once and you don’t want to miss that.
