How Should We Start the Process of Finding an In-Home Daycare?

Once you have determined that an in-home daycare is the best option for your family, finding an in-home daycare provider can be Some parents, when faced with this prospect, find that they don’t even know where to begin. Fortunately, there are a few basic steps that you can go through to start the process of finding in-home daycare.

After you’ve chose to use in-home daycare, you have to decide exactly what kind of daycare you are looking for. You should take some time to write out the specific type of environment that you want your child to be in, and what kind of person you want to be caring for your child.

In terms of the home itself, you decide ahead of time what you want to see. You should expect safety measures, such as gates on stairways and plugs on electrical outlets. Beyond that, you should decide what sorts of activities you want to be available to your child; this can include things like outdoor play sets, indoor playrooms, and other such things.

As far as the daycare provider herself, you should figure out ahead of time what sort of person you want. In terms of personality, you want to find a daycare provider that comes across as loving and patient with your children. You should try to find someone that is cheerful, and has a generally positive attitude and outlook. Finally, you want to make sure that she seems to have good old fashioned common sense. There are also certain skills you should make sure that your daycare provider possesses. If you have infants in the home, for example, you should be certain that she has had some experience in caring for infants. In addition, your daycare provider should have at least basic first aid knowledge, and also child and infant CPR training if she does not have it. You may wish to look for other requirements in a daycare provider. These can include things such as no smoking, no alcohol or drug use, and good health and grooming habits.

Next, it is time to identify sources that you can use to search for an in-home daycare. During this process, it pays to be vocal about your need for child care. By talking to everyone you know about your need for in-home daycare, such as other parents, the pediatrician, neighbors, family members, friends, and even a daycare provider that you meet on the street, you may find some excellent leads. Beyond word of mouth, you can look in your local telephone directory for any childcare-related agencies. Local colleges may have employment offices with which you can place an ad, or they may have a childcare referral service. Your employer may also offer such a service. On the Internet, you can find various organizations that can help you to find a in-home daycare. If all else fails, you can place an ad in your local newspaper.

Eventually, you will find that you should have a selection of in-home daycares to choose from.
