How Should We Handle Pant Wetting Accidents When Potty-Training?

When potty training pant wetting accidents are very common. Some children have more accidents than others, but if you are potty training a child then you should go ahead and plan on some accidents to occur. One thing many parents are curious about is how they should handle the pant wetting accidents when potty training. While there are many answers out there, the best one is very calmly. Simply say to your child that pee goes in the toilet very calmly and help your child clean up, this will usually do the trick.

Many times your child wont like getting wet or having wet pants and this is often enough stimulation to help your child make it to the potty. However, this is not the case in every situation and you will still find yourself with wet pants to clean up. Your child is looking to you for support and wants to feel loved. So, when an accident happens be very calm about the whole situation. You could simply say to your child that pee belongs in the potty and that when he/she needs to go potty that he/she knows where the potty is located.

If your child is playing in one room and the potty is not nearby then more accidents may occur. This is because children get very involved in an activity and dont want to stop to go potty. So, consider placing the potty in the room where your child is playing. Remind your child every few hours that the potty is there waiting for him whenever he needs to use it. This reminder frequently helps kids to avoid accidents and make it to the potty. But, dont think that once your child is toilet trained that accidents will never occur. In these situations you will need to be calm and let your child know that accidents happen sometimes but that he needs to help you clean himself up. This gives your child some responsibility over his actions and might help him along in the potty training process.

Wet pants are a normal part of potty training and some kids have a lot while other kids have a few. All children are different so dont get upset if another mom is bragging how her child never has accidents and yours does every other day. Kids learn at different rates and there are a lot of reasons children are successful at potty training so just be patient and as understanding as possible. One day your child will be fully potty trained with no accidents at all so just keep thinking positive thoughts.
