How Long Does It Take To Get Your Body Back After Pregnancy?

Lots of women love being pregnant, but the weight gain is never pleasant or even appreciated! Women know they must gain weight in order to support their growing babies, but most women have in the back of their minds when they are going to begin their weight loss program and how they are going to accomplish it. Lots of new moms wonder how long it will take to get her pre-pregnancy body back after pregnancy. The answer really depends on each and every woman.

Women who gain the recommend 25-35 pounds during pregnancy will not have a difficult time losing the weight afterwards. That is because once the baby is born, most moms lose about 12 pounds. This includes the placenta, baby, extra blood and fluids, and the like. Then, the job of losing 12-20 pounds looms ahead. However, moms who breastfeed will burn significantly more calories on a daily basis than moms who do not breastfeed. This also helps the uterus constrict and become smaller faster. So, breastfeeding moms will find they lose weight quicker and some say the weight just melts off.

Of course, during this time frame women should be eating well and following an exercise routine. If the new mom is doing this she can expect to lose a pound or two per week. So, within a few months the new mom can have her old figure back. Of course, she may not be shaped the same way as before and she may have some stretch marks to show, but getting back to her old weight wont be too much of a problem.

On the other hand, women who gain more than the recommended amount of weight will need to work harder and longer at the weight loss. This means keeping up with a healthy diet and exercise until all the excess weight has been lost. An average of a pound or two per week is normal, so determine how much baby weight you gained, and then subtract a 4-8 pound loss per month. This will give you an idea of how long it will take you to lose the weight. Always remember, though, that if you become lazy and eat a poor diet you may actually gain weight rather than lose it. Dont let this happen to you. Stay focused and you will lose that baby weight!
