How Can I Track My Fertility?

There are many ways to track your fertility and you dont need a doctor to do them! In fact, tracking your fertility can be quite simple if you simply pay attention to what your body is doing each month. Women that track their fertility often get pregnant sooner because they know when they have the best chance to become pregnant and they take advantage of that knowledge.

The first thing that women can do is pay attention to their cervical mucus. Every woman will experience cervical mucus in a different way, but over the course of a couple months you will begin to see a trend in the consistency, the amount, and the texture. Around the time of ovulation the cervical mucus becomes very thin, like egg whites. This is often called fertile cervical mucus because it is most conducive to pregnancy if one has sex in or around this time. Before and after this time the cervical mucus is usually much thicker, not very stretchy, and can even be a different color. Women should make note of their cervical mucus from week to week and look for a pattern.

Another way to track fertility is by keeping track of when your period starts. Many women have very irregular cycles, and this can make getting pregnant more difficult. If you know when you last period was it will also make it easier to determine your due date if you happen to become pregnant. If you track your fertility in this way you will know exactly how long your periods are and you will be able to couple this information with cervical mucus and decipher about when each month you ovulate so you can have unprotected sex to increase the likelihood of becoming pregnant.

Basal body temperature is a great way to track your fertility as well. This goes hand in hand with ovulation as the body temperature will spike when ovulation occurs. Many women use this technique to be sure that they are ovulating when they think they are so that they can try to have unprotected sex that correlates with ovulation. You will need a basal thermometer to take an accurate temperature each day and in time you will likely see a pattern.

There are a lot of free websites online that will offer you the ability to keep all of your fertility tracking very organized so that you will be able to see when ovulation is about to occur. These fertility trackers are easy to use and allow you to input all of your information such as cervical discharge, basal body temperature, and last period so that it is very easy to see what your body is doing from day to day.
