How Can I Stop The Anger I Feel When My Infant Cries?
Almost all parents know that feeling. Your baby has been crying non stop and there is nothing you can do to stop it. You have tried rocking, walking, feeding, cuddling, singing, talking, swinging, and everything else you can think of but the crying continues. At this point you are at the end of your rope. You dont know what else to do and you find yourself becoming angry at your infant, the crying, and you feel like you are going to lose your mind. You love your infant and you dont want to be angry, but you dont know what else to do. The following tips will help you deal with your infants cries. Of course, you want ever love to hear that sound but you can learn to deal with it and reduce the amount of stress and anger associated with it.
Deep Breaths
When your baby is crying non stop and you cant seem to comfort him then simply take some deep breaths. Place your baby in his crib, pack n play, bouncer, or swing and sit down and practice some deep breathing exercises. You may want to walk in your room, the bathroom, and just take two minutes to breathe and calm yourself down. When you are calm you will be more likely to calm your infant than if you are agitated. Remember that just because you are calm does not mean your baby will stop crying, but it might give you the power to get through another few hours.
Turn Off
Sometimes you just need to turn your ears off. This might sound impossible since the sound of a baby crying can be piercing. However, you can learn to tune out the sounds of your babys crying. If you have ever lived near a train track or a freeway the noise might affect you at first but you learn to tune it out. The same goes for your infant. You need to learn to turn off the crying so that you dont get angry and upset.
Turn on Some Music
Sometimes turning on some music can help you hear the music rather than your baby crying or at least not make the crying so loud and piercing. Doing this might actually help your child relax as well as you. Give it a try!
Know That the Crying Will Stop Eventually!
Keep in mind that your baby will stop crying, eventually. If you expect the crying will only last a few minutes and it continues then you will soon find yourself angry and upset. However, if you realize your baby will stop crying when he is ready and you simply accept that fact then you will be able to handle your emotions much better and not take it out on your child. Always keep in mind as well that your baby is crying for a reason and it is your job to figure it out. Stay calm, breathe deeply, and never allow yourself to become so angry or upset that you harm your child.
