How Can I Protect My Infant From Accidents?

Parents want to do everything in their power to protect their infants and older children from accidents, but it is not always possible. Accidents are just part of life and no matter how cautious you are your infant will have an accident at some point. But that doesnt mean you should stop trying to protect your infant. The following tips will help you protect your infant from accidents while keeping you sane knowing you are doing all you can.

Tip #1 Never Leave Your Infant Alone
The most important tip to keeping your infant safe and sound and avoiding accidents is to never, ever leave your infant alone. That means not even for a second. When you are bathing your child make sure you have everything you need before placing your infant in the water. If you think that you can leave your child for just a second to grab a towel, shampoo, or something else you forgot then you can count on enough time passing that an accident could occur. This goes for leaving your child alone in the car, leaving your infant alone on the changing table to grab something across the room, and more. The moment you are not by your infants side an accident can happen. So, if you really want to protect your infant from accidents then dont ever leave your child for a second not even a millisecond.

Tip #2 Childproof Your Home

All too often infants have accidents because they are left in areas that are not childproofed. If you have an infant and want to reduce the risk of accidents then you need to childproof your home and every single room where your infant might be. This means getting on your hands and knees and viewing the room from your infants height. Remove pots, books, plants, and the like that are at a low enough height your child could pull up and pull them off on top of him. Any little thing that your infant can reach he probably will. By moving things off lower levels you will avoid bumps and bruises. Also, put plastic socket savers in all electrical sockets. This means your child wont be able to stick an object in the socket and electrocute himself. Place child locks on cabinets, doors, and the like. Remove cords and cables that your child could easily pull. The safer you make your home means the safer your child will be there.

Tip #3 Age Specific Toys

Another way to prevent accidents with your infant is to only give him age specific toys. Dont allow him to play with toys that are made for older age groups because he could swallow small pieces, place them up his nose, or more. If you only allow your infant to play with toys designed specifically for his age then you can rest assured he will be safe when he is playing.
