How Can I Protect My Infant’s Delicate Skin From The Sun?
We all know that infants have delicate skin that needs to be protected, but exactly how do you go about protecting an infants delicate skin from the sun? Luckily there are many suggestions and tips that can help you keep your infants skin safe from the harmful rays of the sun.
Tip #1 Avoid the Sun
Your infant is young and his skin has not matured enough to be able to battle against the suns rays. So, do your best to avoid the sun during the peak hours, usually between 10 am and 3 pm. Keeping your infant away from the sun during these hours will reduce the risk of sunburn and other sun damage. Even if it is a cloudy day or it looks overcast dont assume that its ok to take your infant out into the sun for prolonged periods of time. UV rays can penetrate clouds and even some clothes, so keep your infant out of harms ray by using an umbrella or simply avoiding the sun until later in the day.
Tip #2 Sunscreen
Make sure you buy a sunscreen with a high SPF that is made specifically for infants sensitive skin. Using an adult formula may be too strong for your baby and cause irritation. This is the last thing you want so try and avoid this by having a specially formulated sunscreen for infants on hand at all times.
Tip #3 Long Sleeves and Pants
Another way to avoid the suns harmful rays, or to at least reduce them, is to dress your child in long sleeves and pants when he is out in the sun. If it is a super hot day you dont need to have your baby outside anyway so dont worry about it getting too hot. The long sleeves and pants will provide a barrier between your childs skin and the sun and reflect many of the UV rays.
Always keep an umbrella, a long sleeve shirt, and some sunscreen in your baby bag. That way in case a super sunny day rolls around and you must be outside you will be able to protect your childs skin from the sun. The last thing you want is for your baby to become sunburned because that can cause lifetime skin damage not to mention is very painful and will make for a really cranky baby for several days.
