First Trimester Pregnancy Concerns

When a woman realizes she is pregnant she immediately feels joy, excited, and maybe even a bit of fear. After the initial shock wears off its not long before the first trimester pregnancy concerns begin to crop up. Pregnant women seem to worry about everything and it is completely normal even if its not necessary. The following concerns are common ones during the first trimester of pregnancy.

Bleeding and Spotting
Many women bleed or spot lightly during their first trimester. Many times this is implantation bleeding and nothing to be concerned about. Some women even continue to bleed lightly during the period of time they would have normally received their periods. This is nothing to be concerned with and will not negatively impact the pregnancy in any way. Bleeding or spotting accompanied with cramping, a backache, or heavy bleeding should be reported to the doctor immediately.

Insomnia
Lots of pregnant women have insomnia during the first trimester thanks to sore breasts, frequent urination, and even leg cramps. However, all of these are normal symptoms of pregnancy and simply must be dealt with until they pass.

Heartburn
The increased levels of hormones progesterone and relaxin make heartburn rear its ugly head during the first trimester. It may continue throughout pregnancy however getting worse as you gain weight.

Weight Gain
As soon as women find out they are pregnant many start worrying about weight gain. Most women gain only three to five pounds during the first trimester although there are others who gain more and still others who gain less.

Exhaustion
Almost all pregnant women experience extreme exhaustion during the first trimester of pregnancy. This is completely normal an due to all the hard work the body is doing while growing a new little one inside you. By the second trimester your energy should have returned.

Miscarriage
The first 12 weeks of pregnancy is the most likely time for a woman to have a miscarriage. As a result many women tiptoe through the first trimester just hoping to hit week 13 so they can relax.

Pregnant women have many other concerns during the first trimester and the entire semester, but these are just a few of them.
