Finding Homeschooling A Challenge?
Do you find homeschooling a challenge? If so you are not alone. Many families face the same problem and although they want to homeschool they sometimes find that it is more difficult than they imagined. Fortunately, there are a variety of tips that can help make homeschooling easier on parents and children and much more enjoyable.
Tip #1 Start on Time
Flexibility of your schedule is great when homeschooling, however balancing the two can be very difficult. So, you need a school start time every day. This time must be observed and only in severe situations should it be altered. This allows everyone to know that school starts at the same time every day and that they should be prepared by this time. Morning hours work great and you can focus on two or three hours of instruction in the morning and then have a break or lunch followed by an educational time for the child alone.
Tip #2 Kids Learn in All Environments
You dont have to have your kids sitting at desks all day to homeschool them. In fact, you might teach them more if you allow them to learn through real world experience. So, if you are teaching math you might consider telling your children you have a budget of $100 to spend at the grocery store. Let them know about the tax rate and help them learn how to determine it first. Then, head to the grocery store with pen, paper, and a calculator. Let your child help you shop, use coupons, and determine the final price of the groceries making sure it is within the budget. This exercise will not only enforce your childs math skills, but also teach them how to apply those skills to real life situations.
Tip #3 Projects
With homeschooling you have more opportunities to allow your children to learn by doing projects than in the public school system. So, make sure you come up with plenty of projects your child can work on in the afternoons that are fun and reinforce the topics your child is studying.
When you look at homeschooling as a lot of fun and think of creative ways to teach your child then it wont be such a challenge. Make daily activities part of learning and you will be able to accomplish all of the chores as well as teaching your child. In fact, your child will not only learn the basics of math, science, and writing but will also learn skills for life.
