Dyslexia And Homeschooling

Dyslexic children score higher than average on intelligence tests, which many people find amazing. Lots of people see dyslexia as an illness or a disability, however it is simply the way some children are born, and it can be overcome. The best way to help your dyslexic child learn is to homeschool using a teaching method that corresponds with the way your child learns. It may take some time to determine just what works, but once you do your child will surely excel. The following information will help you understand why homeschooling is truly a blessing for the dyslexic child.

Dyslexics Learn When they are Ready
A reason homeschooling your dyslexic child is a good idea is because dyslexics learn when they are ready to learn. A dyslexic child cannot be taught if he is not ready to learn. So, in a public school situation your dyslexic child will find that he constantly receives low scores, under performs, and is stupid compared to others. This is certainly not the idea you want your intelligent child to have about himself.

By homeschooling your dyslexic child you will be able to reinforce his abilities and let him learn on his own schedule. Many dyslexics are not ready to lean to read and write until they are 10 years old, and in the school system this will cause problems. But at home you can focus on other types of learning until your child is ready for this part.

Distinct Learning Styles
Dyslexic children are almost always intelligent, but they have a distinct learning style. This means that they more than likely wont learn well in a public school classroom the way the teacher presents the material. In fact, two dyslexic children might have two different learning styles. So, read up on the different methods for teaching dyslexic children and talk to your child about them. See what they think about the methods of learning.

You want your child to learn so allow him to find what works for him. Then, teach your child in this way. It might mean you must create a special curriculum involving several methods, but whatever works is key to teaching your dyslexic child. If your child were in public school, however, they would not have this opportunity.
