Christmas Art & Craft Ideas for Kids & Adults

It is a little bit cliché, but the fact remains that Christmas is the most wonderful time of the year. In addition to the celebrations, the holiday treats, the gift giving, and the time spent with family and friends, Christmas is an excellent time to work on arts and crafts. There are many Christmas arts and crafts ideas that both kids and adults will enjoy.

One of the most enjoyable arts and crafts ideas around Christmas time is the traditional gingerbread house. Many people may be apprehensive about baking gingerbread and then trying to use it in an arts and crafts project; the good news is that gingerbread houses now even come in kits, with the gingerbread already baked, and many decorations such as frosting and gumdrops.

Another fun craft that kids and adults can work on together is a Christmas wreath. You can make a base for the wreath from two wire coat hangers covered with floral tape. You then secure several long branches of fir trees, each about eight to ten inches long, to the base with lightweight floral wire. You can keep adding them until the base is covered. Once the base is covered, you can add decorations to your wreath, using hot glue or floral wire to secure them to the wreath.

Homemade ornaments are something that adults and kids will both enjoy making. Your imagination is your only limit when it comes to ornaments; it can be as simple as buying clear glass bulb ornaments and then painting pictures onto them or gluing decorations on to them, or it can be as elaborate as making a Rudolph ornament from craft foam and popsicle sticks. Another great ornament idea is to take a picture of the family and to print copies of the picture to be glued onto the ornament.

Whatever arts and crafts you decide to do this Christmas season, remember that it is the time that you spend together and the thought behind your projects that is important. Devoting some time to art and crafts during Christmas can help both adults and kids to celebrate Christmas without the stress of party planning or gift shopping.
