Trying to Get Pregnant Articles
Many women report having their period while pregnant, but typically this is not the case. The reason why this cannot be is that pregnancy and menstruation cannot take place at the same time, by the very definition of the two. If you were pregnant and you began menstruating you would inevitably lose the pregnancy, or have a miscarriage. While you cannot have your period and continue to be pregnant at the same time you can experience vaginal bleeding and continue to be pregnant. It is often this vaginal bleeding that women believe is their menstrual cycle when it is not.
Early pregnancy bleeding is not at all uncommon and many women report that they do bleed regularly during the early portion of their pregnancies. This is not at all a menstrual cycle though; it is usually referred to as early pregnancy bleeding. This bleeding is usually is due to hormonal changes and is not of the quantities of blood that a woman typically sees when having her normal menstrual period. Early pregnancy bleeding can vary in amounts from slight spotting to vaginal bleeding consistent with a menstrual cycle.
Another reason for bleeding during pregnancy is something called implantation bleeding. This bleeding usually takes place when the embryo is attaching to the wall of the uterus. This type of bleeding is ordinarily seen five days after conception, so it is easy to see why a woman would confuse this bleeding with her menstrual cycle and there may be some difficulty in determining when the last menstrual period was. Implantation bleeding is not all that common and usually is not more than a slight spotting or a pinkish red colored mucus, but occasionally there is more bleeding associated with it.
Getting pregnant while on the pill is often associated with bleeding during pregnancy that can be confused with a menstrual cycle. Many women who are on the pill have several bleeding episodes before they realize that something is not quite right. In cases like this a woman usually cannot accurately tell her doctor when her last real menstrual cycle was and an ultrasound is required to provide the mother and the doctor with an estimated due date.
There are many reasons, as stated above, that a woman can experience vaginal bleeding while pregnant but it is impossible to have a true period and remain pregnant at the same time. The problem is that much of the bleeding that women experience coincides with the same time that they usually see their menstrual cycle each month, so they naturally assume that it is their period. Luckily, the majority of women do not experience this type of bleeding.

Most women will miss a period at some point in their life. It really isnt all that uncommon but there are some very common explanations for a missed period. If you miss a period just one month chances are that it is nothing to worry about but if your menstrual problems persist over time it is probably something that you should seek medical advice for.
Some of the most common reasons to miss your period, no matter what your age, are stress, rapid weight gain or weight loss, and illness. These are issues that you can have even if you are not sexually active, so if you miss your period you should stop and think about all of these scenarios and how they apply to your life. A lot of the time when we stop and think about what has been going on in our life recently we will be able to pinpoint the exact reason we didnt have our period this month!
For those that are sexually active pregnancy will likely be the first thing that comes to mind. You dont have to pick up the phone and call your doctor just because you are sexually active and you miss your period, though. You should wait a few days and then run to the store and pick up a home pregnancy test. These tests are relatively inexpensive and very easy to use and most of them are very accurate. You can determine on your own if you are pregnant and then you can call your gynecologist to set up an appointment.
If you are not pregnant another reason for a missed period is that the pill you are taking is too low in estrogen. This is a common problem, especially if you have just changed your pill brand or prescription or if you have just started the pill. Missed periods are also a common side effect of mini pills, which are progesterone only pills. Norplant and Depo-Provera also commonly cause missed periods as the drugs often suppress ovulation as well as a womans period. This may be common early on in the usage of these products but will usually work itself out over time.
As you can see there are a lot of reasons that you can miss a period. Only you can determine if you need to see a doctor or you can take the wait and see approach to the problem. Generally a missed period isnt a reason to panic, but it is a reason to pay attention to your body and try to figure out why it would not go through this totally normal and regular cleansing process and if there is anything you can do to change what is going on.

There are many causes for irregular menstrual cycles; some of them are a reason to be worried while others are completely normal given your circumstances. When you first start your period you may find that you do not have regular cycles at all, and this is completely normal as your hormones are fluctuating. Women that are going through menopause may also find that their cycles are very irregular, and again this is usually not something to be worried about and is generally associated with a fluctuation in hormones. Women who are of child bearing ages will generally see a pattern develop and will begin to expect their menstrual cycle at about the same time every month, give or take a day or two.
If your periods have become irregular or have been irregular for some time despite your age and what should be a very typical time to have regular cycles you there may be some things that you could consider as the cause. Some of the most common causes of an irregular period are stress and a change in diet. The body is all about self preservation, and when you are stressed or have made a major change in the diet your body will preserve its energy and your menstrual cycle takes energy. When the stress passes or your diet balances out your menstrual cycle will likely become more regular again.
Some other causes of an irregular menstrual cycle may be per menopause, weight gain, weight loss, vegetarian diet, pelvic inflammation, uterine polyps, early miscarriage, fibroids, uterine cancer, and other uterine abnormalities. If you can rule out stress and a change in diet you may want to check with your doctor to be sure that you dont have something more serious going on. Chances are your body is just a bit off and things will return to normal soon enough. If in doubt, you should always double check with your doctor just to be sure that there isnt something to be worried about.
Its important to note that a month or two where your period is a bit irregular probably isnt something to worry about. If you have three or four months at a time where things just arent right that is when you may want to consider talking to your doctor. We all have times where our period comes a bit late, a bit early, not at all, or is heavier or lighter than usual. The menstrual cycle is not exactly the same every month, and sometimes the variations will just be a bit more noticeable than usual. An irregular menstrual cycle in and of itself is not something to worry about, but if it becomes the rule rather than the exception, its time to get it checked out.

For a long time women have been asking if they can get pregnant when they have their period. The answer has gone back and forth, but one clear answer is that there is not a time during your cycle when you are free of the risk of getting pregnant. The reason for this is that there are women who have gotten pregnant at just about every time during their cycle, including their period! Every woman is different and while it is very rare for a woman to get pregnant while menstruating, there is a very slim possibility.
While it is not typical for women to get pregnant during their period, women often have bleeding that they mistake for their period and they become pregnant as a result. Stress and other issues may cause mid-cycle bleeding and if a woman assumes that she is having her period and has unprotected sex she may have sperm that are alive and well for five to seven days after this time. If the woman ovulates or has recently ovulated during or around this time, it may appear as though the woman has gotten pregnant during her period when she really has not. This is where knowing ones body will really come in handy, but sometimes it really can be tricky to determine what is really going on when you are bleeding.
Another typical issue is that some women ovulate before menstrual bleeding has stopped or it happens just as the period is finishing up. Either way, if you have unprotected sex before or just after your period you can end up pregnant by the end of your menstrual cycle! Usually when a woman becomes pregnant during or right around the time of her period it is due to the longevity of sperm. If you have sex around the time that you ovulate you are at risk of becoming pregnant, even if it is during or around the time of your period!
For so long women have been told that it is not possible to get pregnant during their menstrual cycle so they believe that they can freely enjoy unprotected sex and not worry about pregnancy. The fact is that most women do not get pregnant around this time, but there are some women that do not have the typical cycle and they can and will become pregnant if all of the ideal circumstances meet up. Never say never with the human body because there is a wide range of what can be considered normal or probable, and because every body is unique there are women that will become pregnant on the first through the last day of their cycle.

After a miscarriage you may be devastated, but it is not uncommon to begin to wonder right away when you will get your period again so you can begin trying to conceive all over again. Miscarriages are devastating, but the way that many of us cope is to start planning again for the future, otherwise we could get lost in our grief. Your doctor has likely told you that you need to wait until you have had a normal period and then you can begin trying to conceive again. So, when will you get your period?
Every woman is different, but generally you can expect to get your period in four to six weeks. Some women get their period just a couple weeks later, while some women do not get their period for three or more months. Your specific situation will be different than any other womans. So, when do I start counting from now until four weeks, you might ask? You should expect to get your period about four weeks after a D&C and you might expect to see your period around six weeks after a miscarriage that did not require a D&C. Remember that what is normal really varies widely, but if something doesnt feel right or it has been more than 12 weeks you might want to put a call into your doctor to be sure that all is well.
Also, you need to remember that if you are having unprotected sex, you can become pregnant again soon after having a miscarriage. It is generally thought that you are not fertile for four to six weeks after a miscarriage, but many women have conceived as little as two weeks after a miscarriage. If it has been a few weeks since your miscarriage and you havent see your period and you have symptoms of pregnancy, it wouldnt be out of the question to buy a home pregnancy test to be sure that you are not pregnant, stranger things have happened!
Ideally is it a good idea to wait at least one cycle before you begin trying to conceive again after a miscarriage. If for some reason you do conceive earlier it generally isnt an issue. Its also important to remember that your previous miscarriage usually isnt an indication that you will not be able to carry another pregnancy to term. The best thing to do is to take time to grieve your miscarriage and only move on to trying to conceive again when you are emotionally ready so you are in the best emotional place possible to get pregnant. A miscarriage can be hard, but soon you will have a normal period and you will be ready to try again!

When attempting to become pregnant you suddenly have an awareness of your cervical mucus. If you dont seem to have much cervical mucus or you just dont believe that yours is of the fertile variety there are some things that you can do. The ideal cervical mucus for fertilization is thin, clear, slippery, and of an egg white consistency. If the mucus is too thick or too dry it does not work well to protect the sperm as it makes its way through the vagina and cervix into the uterus and then into the fallopian tubes.
There are some very basic things that you can do to create more fertile cervical mucus. The first is to drink more water and decrease or do away with the caffeine in your diet. If you take antihistamines you will want to stop taking them or reduce the amount that you take because these not only dry up the sinuses, they also dry up your cervical mucus! Increasing your fluid intake and doing away with caffeine and antihistamines will likely make your cervical mucus be much more fertile so that you have a better chance of becoming pregnant.
If increased fluids, a reduction in caffeine, and limiting or doing away with your antihistamines doesnt seem to provide an improvement in the fertile quality of your cervical mucus you may want to try Evening Primrose Oil. Evening Primrose Oil has been used for generations to help increase cervical mucus and many women swear that it is the only reason that they were able to get pregnant. The oil has essential fatty acids among other properties that aide the body in producing more high quality cervical mucus. You can take 1500mg to 3000mg daily, but this should only be taken from menstruation until ovulation as it is known to cause uterine contractions which could prevent a fertilized egg from implanting properly.
Along with Evening Primrose Oil you may want to take flax seed oil. This works in much the same way as Evening Primrose as it delivers essential fatty acids. In fact, you can pick up with Flax seed where you leave off with Evening Primrose Oil during your cycle. The two often make a good combination and will help produce all of the cervical mucus you need to aide in conception.
Many women swear that grapefruit juice helps to increase the quality of cervical mucus, though there is not a whole lot of data to back these claims up. However, there are literally thousands of women that swear by grapefruit juice, so its worth a try if you are willing. If nothing else, grapefruit juice will get more fluids in you, which will help product more fertile mucus!
If you find that natural remedies do not work all that well you might want to talk to your doctor about your concerns. Your doctor may be able to prescribe estrogen cream or tablets in addition to Clomid. These two medications will work together to help you produce cervical mucus that will aide in bringing the sperm from the vagina into the fallopian tubes to be fertilized.
As you can see, there are a lot of options to help increase the quality and the amount of fertile cervical mucus that you currently have. Sometimes your body just needs a little bit of help so give one or more of these remedies a try and see if you experience an improvement. Cervical mucus is an important part of conception, so do what you can to improve it.

If you are trying to get pregnant the best way to truly know when you are and when you are not is by paying close attention to your cervical mucus. What you thought before was an unimportant function of the body will now become very interesting as you watch the very extreme changes in your cervical fluid. You may wonder how you never noticed the changes, especially when you see the thin, slippery, egg white consistency of your fertile cervical mucus!
The reason why you may have never noticed the fertile cervical fluid is because it doesnt usually last all that long. The cervical fluid usually becomes very slippery and stretchy like egg whites right before ovulation. One to four days after ovulation the cervical mucus will change from the egg white consistency back to a thicker, even cloudy or milky like mucus. Some women are still fertile with this cloudy mucus, but its usually for two to three days at the very most. You can bet that four days after your last sight of the slippery, clear mucus that you are no longer fertile.
It may take you a couple cycles to really determine what is what with your cervical mucus and really see when your fertile days are. You may be able to help sort it out by using a basal thermometer to determine if you are ovulating. Some women produce a lot of mucus and will see it in their panties to easily determine if they are fertile or not. Others will have to check within their vagina for the mucus, and others still produce so little that it may be difficult to tell on their own.
If you are worried that the limited window of fertile mucus limits your chance of getting pregnant, there is no need to worry. The great thing about this mucus is that sperm can live in it for up to seven days, so even if you have intercourse just once during this time you could still end up pregnant. Like your mucus, it is not really the quantity of sperm that meet the mucus, but the quality of the sperm and the mucus working together. This fertile mucus is very conducive to fertilization, so if you have sex once you still have hope of becoming pregnant.
There is really no way of extending the number of days that you have fertile cervical mucus but there are home remedies and medications that you can take to help increase the amount or the quality of your existent cervical mucus. Having more fertile cervical mucus will likely help you get pregnant in a much more efficient manner!

Drinking grapefruit juice while trying to conceive has long been recommended by mothers, doctors, and midwives to aide in the fertilization process. The grapefruit juice is said to help thin the cervical mucus so that the sperm can travel easily from the vagina, through the uterus and into the fallopian tubes to meet the egg. The egg white consistency cervical mucus is known to be the most fertile in every woman, but not every woman can product this type of cervical mucus on her own, and so many generations have turned to grapefruit juice.
Of course, like many home remedies there are varying rates of success with this cervical mucus remedy. Some women report that they see an instant improvement while others report minimal improvement and others still see no change. Its important to remember that every womans body responds to every drug, chemical, and naturally occurring substance differently so there is no way to determine if this remedy will work for you. But, if you are in search of a natural remedy to improve the texture of your cervical mucus grapefruit juice certainly is worth a try.
While there may be no medical evidence to connect grapefruit juice or any of its properties with a thinning of the cervical mucus, women for generations will swear on the remedy. Because of this, it is definitely worth a try. You may have to drink the juice regularly for a couple cycles before you see a change, so hopefully you like grapefruit juice. If you want to increase your chances of success with this remedy you may want to combine your juice with Evening Primrose oil or even Robitussin, which are also known to thin the cervical mucus and create a more fertile environment for the sperm and ultimately fertilization.
Even if it is not the grapefruit juice that works its magic on your cervical mucus, this remedy will help because it will increase your fluid intake. If you have very dry or spongy cervical fluid you need to increase your fluids and grapefruit juice certainly will count! So, whether this generations old home remedy really does work or not is not really up for debate because it does work at least by putting more fluids into your body, and that is important. If you see increased results, than that is even better. Remember that there are many natural remedies that you can try and even combine for proven results. Generations of women and doctors cannot be wrong, so dont hesitate to try this remedy and see what happens. Even if it does not prove to be useful for you, you wont be any worse off than you are now.

The consistency and the amount of cervical mucus in the vagina is an important part of getting pregnant. If you are having trouble getting pregnant, or you just want your efforts to be as efficient as possible, you may want to consider Evening Primrose Oil. Evening Primrose Oil comes from a wildflower known as the Evening Primrose. The oil that is derived from the flower is very rich in Vitamin E as well as gamma lanoline acid, which is an essential fatty acid. Evening Primrose Oil has long been associated with improving the quality and fertile nature of cervical mucus.
Evening Primrose Oil consistently helps women produce fertile cervical fluid, which looks and feels like egg whites. This cervical fluid is usually very thin, watery, and even stretchy. This type of cervical mucus is ideal because it aids the sperm in swimming through the uterus, into the fallopian tube, and to the egg without being damaged. Evening Primrose Oil seems to help produce this fertile cervical mucus, which is important because in the right mucus the sperm can travel undamaged and relatively easily, living up to five days in the fallopian tubes which will increase the likelihood of fertilization.
If you do not produce a lot of cervical mucus it is a good idea to drink a lot of water and take the Evening Primrose Oil. Together the oil and the water will generally work to produce more cervical mucus as well as the most fertile type of mucus. If you are interested in trying Evening Primrose Oil you will want to take 1500mg to 3000mg every day. You should only take the Evening Primrose from menstruation to ovulation because Evening Primrose Oil can actually cause uterine contractions, which you do not want, especially early in a pregnancy. If you want to continue with the regimen, it is a good idea to take flax seed oil instead of the Evening Primrose Oil after ovulation.
Evening Primrose is thought to be the ideal natural remedy when it comes to improving the quality of your cervical mucus. You may hear about a lot of other remedies to try, but chances are you will have the most success with Evening Primrose Oil. Do not be frustrated if you do not see instant results when you first start taking the recommended dosage, as with all herbs Evening Primrose takes as long as eight weeks to build up in your system to an effective level. While some women see results in a very short time, others dont see the results for the full eight weeks or more. The best way to see the results is to chart all of your fertility symptoms and signs, this will also help you determine when you should stop taking the Evening Primrose and switch to the flax seed oil.

Hostile cervical mucus is typically not a welcome term if you are trying to get pregnant. Not only does the term indicate that you are probably having a difficult time getting pregnant, it also sounds very bad! Luckily, there are things that can be done about hostile cervical mucus, and a lot of them are very easy. Instead of getting down about your hostile cervical mucus get hostile right back and do what you can to remedy the situation.
One of the most common causes of hostile cervical mucus is poor diet. It seems odd, but our diet really does affect everything, including our cervical mucus! If you eat a lot of dairy products you may find that your cervical mucus becomes very thick, which is not at all welcoming to sperm and to the conception process. If this is the case you can usually decrease the amount of diary you eat, increase your water intake, eat salty foods, and take a supplement that is known to help with cervical mucus such as Evening Primrose Oil. An amazing amount of hostile cervical mucus can be remedied just by changing your diet, which is a small price to pay to be able to conceive naturally and happily.
Other causes of hostile cervical mucus are related to medications. Antihistamines are a common culprit as they simply do not allow the body to produce enough cervical fluid to facilitate the conception process. Another common medication cause of hostile cervical mucus is Clomid. In about 30% of the women that take this fertility drug hostile cervical mucus is the result. There are other medications that your doctor can prescribe in place of Clomid if this is the case and is easily correctable.
Other common causes of hostile cervical mucus are a production of thick cervical mucus that just is not helpful in getting the sperm to the egg in an efficient amount of time. This can often be fixed by drinking more water and avoiding dairy products as well as foods that are high in vitamin C. Evening primrose oil as well as estrogen cream can usually help thin your cervical mucus to make it more inviting to the conception process.
Other common problems are disease of the uterus or cervix, viruses of the vaginal area, or damage to the cervix or cervical cells as a result of surgery or biopsies. These are usually a bit more difficult to deal, but still one of these issues isnt a reason to lose hope. Doctors have become very innovative in their techniques to improve cervical mucus and conditions to aide in the conception process. Also, its important to keep in mind that cervical mucus is rarely the sole cause of infertility, so even if you do not have the most ideal cervical mucus there is still a good chance that you can great pregnant!
