If you want to throw the best Thanksgiving party ever then you need to come up with the right ingredients. These may differ for different family and friends, but some of the basic elements will remain the same. The following tips should have you well on your way to planning the best Thanksgiving party ever.
Food If you really want to have the best Thanksgiving party ever then you need to have lots of food! Most people plan on stuffing themselves just as much as the holiday bird so cook extra. You will need to have plenty of turkey, ham, sides, bread, and more desserts than you think are enough! Remember to always cook enough that if some unexpected guests show up you still have plenty. Eating leftovers for the next several days is part of Thanksgiving tradition anyway so having extra wont hurt any!
Keep in mind you want to serve the traditional Thanksgiving foods, but there is nothing wrong with mixing it up a bit and adding some cultural foods or some of your favorites that arent traditional. Who knows, they might just become tradition over time!
Spirits To really loosen folks up consider having some wine, liquor, or beer on hand. In fact, you could even plan on just wine, just mixed drinks, beer, or a mixture of the above. If you dont want to go to too much trouble then choose a drink that complements the meal and stock up on that particular one. As long as your guests can have a drink or two they will relax and really enjoy the party. Just be careful because you dont want to let your guests get drunk before the meal. Then they might not have room to eat or else cause a scene. So, serve drinks just a bit before dinner or offer them afterwards. Its your party so you have control!
Sports Unless you are only inviting sports loathing individuals to your Thanksgiving party you need to make sure you have a comfortable and spacious area where guests can see the football games going on. Watching sports on Thanksgiving Day is frequently what many individuals look forward to the most, so you dont want to deprive anyone of that. You can even include sports watching in the party atmosphere or try and schedule your party so it doesnt interfere with an important game.
Company And finally, the best Thanksgiving parties of all are due to the company present. Do your best to invite just enough people but not too many so that the atmosphere is comfortable and enjoyable. Also, avoid inviting people who dont get along well with others or you for that matter. While Thanksgiving is traditionally a family holiday you actually want to enjoy the day so be careful about who you invite.

We all look forward to Thanksgiving in order to have a really great meal, spend time with friends and family, and simply relax and enjoy the day. However, as soon as Thanksgiving ends we are up early and at the stores for the early bird specials and all the great deals. Thats right, the after Thanksgiving Day sale starts early, and if you want to get the best deals you have to get up and get out to the stores. But, how did the after Thanksgiving Day sale actually start?
A Little Bit of History
The day after Thanksgiving is known as Black Friday and is the first day of the countdown to Christmas. That means it is also the first shopping day! This custom has been around since the 1930s and it is almost always the busiest shopping day of the year. Since so many individuals get out and about to buy gifts and shop for Christmas it is obvious that stores would offer sales and promotions to get people in their stores to buy.
The reason the day is called Black Friday is because retailers are actually in the black that day, i.e. they are making profits! There are so many deals and specials going on that shoppers must get up really early in order to be the first ones in the store to get the desired gift. Some shoppers have even camped out to buy that special toy or gift that has major sellout potential.
The stores are crowded, lines are long, and patience can sometimes run thin. However, you can score some serious deals on Black Friday so if you have the day off from work and some money to burn you might want to check the stores and see whats available. Generally the best deals can be found on electronics, especially ones that are hot that year.
Most of the time the deals that you can find on Black Friday arent widely publicized until the week of Thanksgiving. That keeps shoppers on their toes and reading the newspapers to find out when and where the biggest and best sales will be. Now, the Internet also assists in getting the news out! Thanksgiving is just around the corner and that means Black Friday is too so just start saving your money so you can buy all those great deals you encounter!

Each year in November we all gather with our families and eat turkey, dressing, pumpkin pie, and plenty of other traditional foods. But, why do we celebrate Thanksgiving? And, how many of us know exactly how Thanksgiving originated? Most Americans think they have a pretty good idea, but its always nice to go over the beginning of Thanksgiving to remind us why we give thanks and how it all really started.
Interestingly enough there are several ideas of how Thanksgiving originated. The most common one is discussed below.
The common idea is that Thanksgiving originated with the Pilgrims. Most Americans have this idea that when the Pilgrims landed in America and settled themselves they wanted to give thanks and appreciation for making it through the long journey. Also, they ended up sharing their feast with the Native Americans. Or did they?
The fact is that the first Thanksgiving was shared between the Pilgrims and the Wampanoag Indians in 1621. The celebration was more of a harvest festival with sports, games, food, dancing, singing, and revelry. When it comes to the food they ate the menu wasnt much like todays. Instead, it consisted of venison, fowl, and other foods prepared by the pilgrims.
Interestingly enough the first Thanksgiving as we know it did not create a yearly tradition among the pilgrims. Partly because the following year was a poor one and because many new settlers had arrived, Thanksgiving became a celebration that was only observed occasionally over the following centuries. However, thanks to the Revolutionary War all of America celebrated Thanksgiving together in 1777. But, that still didnt get the tradition going like it is today. It wasnt until 1863 when Abraham Lincoln declared the last Thursday in November Thanksgiving that the tradition really became part of Americas culture. The only other change was when Franklin Roosevelt changed the date to the fourth Thursday in 1939.
Of course, you may have learned a different Thanksgiving story in school or you may be one who believes Thanksgiving as a celebration shared by the Indians and the Pilgrims took part in their celebration. There is no shortage of ideas about how Thanksgiving originated. However, the above account is one that is traditionally accepted by Americans and the one that most people tend to believe.

Thanksgiving is a wonderful holiday, but there is a lot of meaning to it more than just turkey and pumpkin pie. The day is about giving thanks for all of our blessings and remembering all of the good things in our life. Many people thank God and bring a religious aspect to the day while others who are not religious simply set the day aside to give thanks. If you want to teach your kids the importance of Thanksgiving you will first need to decide exactly why Thanksgiving is important to you. Once you have determined all the things that are important to you about the Thanksgiving holiday you will then have no trouble teaching your children. The following tips will probably help you out.
Talk About it Your kids are little sponges and can learn anything. However, you must teach them. So, talk about the importance of Thanksgiving each and every year. Begin your discussions a few weeks before the holiday and talk about the meal, who you will be sharing the day with, and what it means to you. As your kids hear you talking about Thanksgiving they will learn what the day is all about and take on your same feelings and traditions regarding the day.
Show Them The most important thing you can do about teaching your children the importance of Thanksgiving is to show them. If you talk all year about how special Thanksgiving is and how you should give thanks and share the day with family but come the actual day you do none of the above then your kids wont put a lot of stock in the day. So, if you have special traditions on Thanksgiving Day make them a big deal, have your children take part in them with you, and continue explaining why you are doing what you are doing. Kids are really smart and they will catch on very quickly.
If you are a good example for your children and you teach them and show them your Thanksgiving traditions and the importance of the day then they will surely catch on. This is how parents have been teaching their children the importance of Thanksgiving for years and the reason why we still celebrate the day and why it is so embedded in our culture. We make a big deal out of Thanksgiving, our children take that in, and then they give the day the same importance we do and teach their children the same. Its a cycle, but its a beautiful one that keeps us thankful for all that we have as an individual, family, state, nation, and world each and every year.

Thanksgiving is based on a feast that began during harvest time hundreds of years ago and the Pilgrims landing safely in the New World. Since then many traditions have been created within families on how the day should be celebrated. Frequently, these traditions are passed down and continue for generations. Yet, sometimes, new families want to make Thanksgiving traditional for their family with new traditions. But, figuring out exactly how to make Thanksgiving special for your family may be difficult! Consider the following suggestions to help you make Thanksgiving traditional for your family.
The Meal Thanksgiving without a meal isnt Thanksgiving, but you can create your own traditions on Thanksgiving Day by creating a special meal for your family. Traditionally people have turkey, but if you dont like turkey or just want to do something different then you could serve a special roast, ham, lamb, or another favorite meat.
Keep in mind as well that if you dont like to cook or simply arent very good at it you can have your Thanksgiving meal catered or else head to a nice restaurant for your Thanksgiving meal. Many restaurants really make a big deal about the holiday and serve extravagant meals. You can go out to eat, enjoy your family, and never have a single dish to wash. This might be a tradition you wan to start with your family.
Activities Make Thanksgiving Day a full day affair. Dont simply focus on the meal and then a long nap, unless that is what is traditional for you. Instead, consider including watching a football game in your Thanksgiving Day activities or else watching the Macys Thanksgiving Day parade as a family. Or, perhaps you could have an afternoon pick up football game in your backyard and invite over friends and family to participate. Another idea is to celebrate Thanksgiving on vacation. You might like the beach, mountains, or somewhere tropical, it doesnt really matter, you can go anywhere. The kids are off from school and most people have a break from work, so planning a vacation is perfect around this time. Simply decide where you want to go and head there every year. Thanksgiving is much more about friends and giving thanks than it is about turkey and pumpkin pie!
So, create your own traditions and do whatever sounds fun and exciting to your family. Remember, too, that if you feel like your Thanksgiving Day celebration is stuck in a rut you can always find new ways to celebrate and new traditions for your big day!

The holidays are supposed to be a happy time and they usually are for families who are still together. However, sometimes families break up because the parents no longer want to be married. This in itself is stressful on everyone involved; however it can really have an affect on how holidays are celebrated. So, how are you supposed to deal with the holidays through a divorce? It wont be easy, that is for sure, but the following tips might help you just a little to get through the holiday season without any additional stress.
The Kids If you have kids the holidays will be made especially difficult during a divorce. Who do the kids celebrate with and when? Both parents obviously want to spend Thanksgiving and Christmas with their children, but it is only one day and there is only so much time involved. Then there are the extended families that pressure the parents to have the kids and the already stressful situation intensifies.
If you and your spouse live in the same town then sharing the kids for the holidays is likely the best plan. That way the kids will be with both families for both holidays and traditions wont be affected so much. They will just have to deal with the absence of one parent. If you find yourself in this situation try and work things out with both families so the kids wont be affected more than they have to be.
If you and your estranged spouse live in separate cities or states then sharing the days is nearly impossible. One parent should get Thanksgiving and the other parent Christmas. Deciding between the two may be hard, but do it for the kids. If all else fails put the holidays in a hat and pull one out.
Family Traditions Family traditions will be affected by the divorce so go ahead and plan on that. Prepare your kids for the changes and let them know that while it is sad for some family traditions to be broken creating new ones can be lots of fun. Also, do your very best to keep as many family traditions going as possible. Do it for your children and for yourself. The holidays can be magical if you let yourself take part in the fun. So, dont get too down and out and focus on the divorce. Instead, focus on family, friends, and your children. That way you can really enjoy the holidays despite the divorce.
