Can I Get Financial Help With The Cost of Daycare?

Lets face it, daycare is expensive, and it can really take a lot out of ones paycheck. Individuals who already have low incomes especially feel the price of daycare because often they pay as much out in daycare as they ear, or at least close to it. This leaves one question that should be answered and that is if individuals can get financial help with the cost of daycare.

Most states provide some form of assistance to families who need it for childcare. However, an application must be filled out and submitted to the office of social services in the county where the individual resides. There are different levels of assistance available for childcare depending specifically on your income. Some families will simply pay a co-pay like they would with medical insurance. The amount of co-pay required depends on the income as well. Your social services representative will be able to help you understand what you qualify for and what you will be required to pay.

There are rules when it comes to the individual or company providing the daycare. You cant simply leave your baby with a relative, apply for daycare assistance, and then have a check arrive in the mail for that purpose. Instead, the childcare provider must be licensed, self certified, or an approved relative. Approved relatives are individuals who do not live in the same home as the child, care for a limited number of children during the day, and are related to the child through blood, marriage, or a court decree. A social worker will be able to explain all the details to you and answer all of your questions.

It does take some time to get all the information in the system and for the first payment to be made. This is normal and you simply must be patient. The state must determine you are eligible to receive assistance for child care, process the information, and then begin making payments. This may seem like a hardship for parents who need to go back to work and dont have the money to pay for childcare until the assistance comes through. However, it wont take long before the assistance is approved and you can have care for your child and get back to work, too.
