Are There Certain Formulas That Will Help My Colicky Baby?

Parents who have healthy and happy babies that have never suffered a day of colic might think that a crying baby is difficult to deal with. However, parents of colicky babies know how difficult crying babies can be, especially those with colic that never seem to stop. There has been no real determination as to what causes colic, but the general consensus is that it is a gastrointestinal problem. Babies who are breastfed suffer less from colic than formula fed babies do, but still colic occurs and drives parents insane from all the crying. However, all those formula fed babies out there with colic might benefit form changing the type of formula.

There are a variety of formulas that are designed for colicky babies. These formulas claim to reduce the amount of gas the baby has and ultimately reduce the colic. Some parents find a formula that truly does help their baby and reduce the colic symptoms while other parents try ever colic formula on the market with no results. The following formulas are ones that are designed to be easily digested and help reduce your babys colic. Maybe one of them will work for your baby, but if not dont worry too much because babies usually grow out of colic by six months of age.

Carnation Good Start is a great formula to try if you have a colicky baby. This formula was created with comfort proteins that are broken down in the formula so when they arrive in the babys stomach digestion is much easier. You will need to give the formula a try for at least a week, even if the colic gets worse a day or two, to determine if it helps your baby. That is a general rule with all new formulas. If you try a new one every day looking for a fast result you wont receive it.

Soy based formulas are another option and will work for babies who are sensitive to cows milk proteins but not to soy proteins. This formula will work for about half of these babies and the other half will be left with the same colic as before.

Hypoallergenic formulas are also an option and provide a significant reduction in colic symptoms in most all babies. However, most parents try the above two types of formulas first simply because the hypoallergenic options are really expensive. But, if they are the only option they are certainly worth the cost.
