Are There Benefits to Home Schooling a Kindergartener?

Many children go to kindergarten and have a hard time adjusting. This is normal because it is a really big adjustment. Kids dont have really long attention spans and a seven hour school day can really be overwhelming to some. Many parents choose to home school their kindergartener and still others wonder what the benefits of home schooling are. Following are just a few of the benefits to home schooling your kindergartener.

Teach at Childs Level
All children learn at different speeds and your child may be very advanced in one subject and behind in another. In regular school the lessons just continue day in and day out and your child may get further behind. However, if you are teaching from home you can slow down and focus on the subject your child is having trouble understanding. Also, you can speed through some areas where your child is advanced. As long as you are always challenging your child and never making him feel ashamed for being behind he will enjoy learning. Just evaluate your childs level in different subjects and teach from those levels.

Change the Curriculum
Finding the right curriculum for your child can be a challenge with home schooling. However it is completely impossible to choose the curriculum for your child if he attends a traditional school. The cool thing about home schooling is that you truly can change the curriculum if it is not working for your child. You can keep looking for new books and new ways of teaching until you discover your childs method of learning. At this point you will be an amazing teacher and will know just what your child is capable of and how he learns best.

Teach at Convenient Times
As you know five year olds arent exactly predictable. Sometimes they are cranky, other times they are sick, and still others cant pay attention. If they are at a traditional school they may get behind, be reprimanded, or simply daydream. However, if you are home schooling your child then you will recognize when your child has had enough. You can change the subject, take a break, or put off learning until later in the day or even the next day. Kids will learn more when they are receptive to learning so keep in mind that when you home school you can teach when it is convenient for you and your child!
