Are Home Tutors And Homeschooling The Same?
People who are new to the homeschooling scene have many questions. This is completely normal and the more questions asked the better off the student because the best decision can be made. One common question is whether home tutors and homeschooling are the same. The answer really depends on the person you are asking, but in general they are a bit different.
Home Tutors
Home tutors are generally individuals who teach children certain subjects at home. This means that when a child needs extra help with Spanish the home tutor will arrive and teach that course. In most cases a home tutor only teaches one subject and supplements the homeschooled or public schooled childs education.
Many students have home tutors regardless of where they go to school. The reason why home tutors are so popular is because most students have some subject that they are behind in. Since schools require end of grade testing to determine if the child will make it to the next level home tutors are often required to ensure the child continues through the grades at the appropriate speed. Homeschooled children dont need to worry about that as much, but they do need to learn the material. So, home tutors frequently supplement their education and teach the subject the parent is unable to teach.
Homeschooling
Homeschooling is the decision of parents to teach their children from their home. This means the parents take on the role of teachers. A curriculum is developed, a classroom set up, and one of the parents begins teaching their children on a daily basis. Many homeschooled children do very well and learn quickly. Because of this the parent may find at some point she is over her head and needs a home tutor to teach her child a particular subject.
Kids who are homeschooled really receive a personalized education. One that ensures they are always learning and being challenged and never allowing them to get lost in the crowd or to simply move on without properly understanding a topic.
